Course project - The prompt was to find a local business in need of a website redesign. This project was amazing, because I was able to wear many hats: photographer, researcher, designer, illustrator, and developer. I coded the structure and style of the website, which was hosted on my school’s server and is no longer live. Big take-aways from this assignment include: interviews and research are crucial preliminary steps in brand storytelling; how to balance give-and-take of creative license when working with a client; a huge part of a site’s success comes from closely examining and refining user flows; it is essential to optimize legibility, navigation, and accessibility; and the key to SEO is writing simple code and using just-the-right-size images for quick loading.
